Some fairly big news regarding a new striker has emerged from Sparrows Lane, Lee Bowyer will be looking to bolster his attacking options with 22 goal Gillingham star Tom Eaves.
THE FACTS
Tom Eaves has been somewhat on the radar of Charlton fans since last season after garnering interest due to his goal rate and this season he proved he indeed has that quality in the locker. He may not be as good as Lyle Taylor in terms of his assists, but he can definitely give Taylor a run for his money on the goal side of things.
The news that has come out of the training ground is that he will spend pre-season with us at Sparrows Lane and the yearly tour, I’m not sure where the tour is this year, but I’m sure it will be confirmed in the coming weeks. This will give the coaching staff a good chance to see how good Eaves really is.
MY OPINION
I have been saying this for a while and I’m not sure if Eaves will suit Bowyer’s style, he is a completely different striker from what we have had with the likes of Grant, Vetokele and Parker but saying that they didn’t score much apart from Grant. Maybe a change in style of play might be a good thing because I thought we were looking for a striker that was fast, whereas Eaves is not fast.
A partnership with Lyle Taylor could be a thing of beauty with the 6 foot 5 frontman as Taylor sure knows how to find his man in the box, with Eaves being the big man he is a lot of goals could come from this partnership.
Overall yes, I think it would be a good signing, although Eaves will need to adapt to a different style of play under Bowyer.
