Mambo To Make The Grade

A Charlton youngster to make the grade has been Yado Mambo, who has impressed during pre-season.

Mambo played out of position at right back against Watford, however Phil Parkinson couldn’t fault him and says he’d have no qualms about turning to him this season, Parkinson told The News Shopper: “If you asked me which of the young players has had the best pre-season I`d say it`s got to be Yado.

“He`s a colossal lad in terms of his physical presence but he`s also a really good character who wants to win and wants to throw his body in front of things to protect the goal.

“But he`s also come back more athletic this season and if we`re away from home and need someone in that right-back slot for a big back four to defend set plays at the back end of the game then I can`t think of many better players than Yado Mambo.”

It looks as though we’ll be witnessing Mambo make his breakthrough this season with Charlton and I’ll be looking forward to this.

We gave away Danny *Shittu, another huge Central Defender, who went on to achieve international recognition. Let us hope that we don’t do the same thing with Yado, before he has time to fully develop his game.

You learn by your mistakes (not that **Shittu has really gone on to do much in recent yeats) so we can only hopes that we have and Mambo does make it.
