Speaking to the Official Site following the three one victory, he explained that he was obviously pleased to have found the net himself but what was vitally important was that we got that win under our belts again.

‘To play almost the perfect game after being on such a tough run is hard to describe. It was a really important victory because now we can get our confidence back and work on these things. We`re very pleased with the win for ourselves and the fans. We have spoken about previous games and after the last game we spoke about how we could win more balls in the middle. We spoke about how we could use Alou and his massive experience in the defensive-midfield role. That was one of the reasons and also me and Reza playing more on the outside of the defenders, giving more space to Johann at the front of the diamond, was another of the main reasons. Coming before the international break, we can build some confidence back and we have two weeks to work hard in training and get that under our skins before we play Birmingham.’

Having referencd Alou Diarra, Makienok went on to credit the player as being absolutely crucial to our victory on the day given his performance in the middle of the park.

‘I thought Diarra was one of the most important players on Saturday. He has a lot of experience and he really read the play well. As well as starting things off, when you have a guy like him playing, you always feel like you can go a little higher on the pitch and take some more risks. That pushes the other team back too. One of the main things we spoke about during this bad period was that teams were playing through our lines and everybody dropped down because we had no confidence. For me, Alou was the key player.’

With the match being on remembrance weekend, the players were given a pre match speech by a member of the Armed Forces and Makienok ended his after match interview by saying that that in itself had been inspirational.

‘He gave us the bigger picture. He said that in the military you have strict instructions that you have to stick to, but the most important thing was teamwork. They`re willing to die for their fellow soldiers and teammates. It made a big impact on me and I think it was a very good thing for us to listen to before the game.’
