Lee Bowyer weighs in on whether Grant regrets his move to Huddersfield

|

After our fantastic start to the 2019/20 season there has been some talk on whether Karlan Grant regrets leaving Charlton for Huddersfield as we now sit 2nd in the league to their 23rd with just the one draw in the last six games.

After seeing your former employers thrive after you leave there must be some kind of regret on Grant’s side of things as I’m sure he would love to be where we are right now, or did he move just for the money that Huddersfield have compared to us?

I think that was the original decision from Karlan at the time, but now Jan Siewert has been sacked he might be having second thoughts on his move up north.

Lee Bowyer spoke with The News Shopper about Karlan and here is what he had to say

“I don’t think it’s fair to say he regrets his move because he went to play in the Premier League, he’s scored goals in the Premier League and as a kid that’s what you want to do, to play at the highest level you possibly can.

“Karlan had an opportunity to play Premier League football, he made it clear he wanted to do that, and we had to let him go.”

It’s a shame for Karlan that it has gone the way it has, he is probably regretting it deep down but for me I hope he is disappointed at the table and the football right now, only reason being is that if he wasn’t disappointed at where things are now it kind of shows he’s not in football for the game, but for the money.

With so much of it getting thrown around right now it’s hard for some players to turn a big-money move down just like what it was like for the four-goal striker, but I just want to see him play good football and be in it for the game, prove to the world that you’re not just another money grabber.

If Karlan wanted to come back to Charlton for example this January, we would have a hefty fee to pay for the 21-year-old or anyone other than us for that fact.

They may have paid just £2million for him, which is an absolute steal may I add, but he is their best player right now there is no denying that so if they are still in this position come January The Terriers could lose him for a Premier League side.

I would welcome back Karlan because he is a very good player, however quite a few fans would not want him back after he left last January and the feelings we all went through after that feeling like our season was in jeopardy it was hard not to blame Grant and Roland for the feelings we went through.

However, I wish him well for the rest of the season and I hope he is happy where he is.

Our best player? Give over. We have two centre backs who perform better than Grant.
He’s scored two penalties, a good header and he scrambled one in on Saturday which finally went in off the defender when it should have been a tap-in.
Yes, I’m glad that we’ve got him and he will score goals, but he’s got to up his game to include better control.
