Lee Bowyer issues rallying call for Charlton players as the return of football nears

|

Lee Bowyer has always been a good motivator, he has shown that in his interviews and from what the players say about him, no one is lost under Lee Bowyer. Today he has issued a rallying call to his players ahead of the seasons return to help motivate the players back into football.

Can You Name These Current Charlton Academy Players? I bet you can’t but feel free to prove me wrong!

Who is this?

Bowyer is expecting some of those players to stay at home to protect their families from the virus and who can blame them, unfortunately for us we need every man we can get right now which makes this situation even harder for everyone at Charlton.

The players are due to take a Coronavirus test tomorrow at Sparrows Lane although this was meant to happen on Thursday, but there was a problem getting the kits to the training ground on time.

Lee Bowyer spoke to Toby Porter from The South London Press and here is what he had to say

“I am looking forward to seeing the players come back in tomorrow. I will ask them individually if they want to come back and play.

“I have to know who is available and who is going to fight for us – who wants to put their bodies on the line. It is a difficult situation to be in, and if people are not going to give their all, there’s no point in them being around.

“I will not force anyone – that’s the point of asking the question. Most will say yes – some will say they would rather not.

“The ones that don’t want to be involved I need to know now – because I need to know what sort of squad I’m going to have for this nine-game league.

Bowyer continued on as he passed on some much-needed motivation for the Charlton players

“We have got nine games to stay in this league,” he said. “We are in a great position to give ourselves a chance. Everyone before the start of the season would have had us done and dusted by this stage.

“We are still battling. There are a lot of teams around us and we have to finish at the top of that pile. We have been through a lot and there have been a lot of hurdles and this is just another one.

“We all have to fight together through this. We will come through it and we will be fine We have got through a lot of other things and surprised people – this is no different.”

I hope the players properly take these words on board as we really need them right now, the future of the club is at stake and I don’t think there has been a time where we so desperately need to stay up to survive as a football club let alone as a Championship team.

Bowyer has said that it would “kill” the club is we were to be relegated so the pressure is on and the motivation Bowyer brings needs to shine on the pitch.
