Earlier this morning Karl Robinson had his weekly press conference talking to the clubs website and I have to say he did take control of it very well and he came out of it with a lot of confidence and making us feel that the team have high spirits for the Millwall game on Saturday.

What I mean by he took control, when he was questioned on the 21 years Millwall have been unbeaten against Charlton Karl was quick to respond by interrupting the interviewer for the clubs website by saying.

“people say this, but let`s put this right how many years did we not play them for? We have not beat them for a long time, we get that, we understand that, but every run comes to an end so we just want to be the ones to do that”.

With what Karl has said there I am pleased that he has put it out there that “every run comes to an end” because I am sure that every Charlton fan has felt that a fixture against Millwall is a straight loss before it`s even been played, I think that is something that us as fans in the position we are in we really needed to hear that and to be honest I have put our disgraceful performance against Millwall at The Den last month completely behind us because this is a new game, it`s a new year, it`s a new team and I feel that the re-inventing process with Karl has only just begun with the three new singings we have, maybe they can bring something new to the squad that we haven`t had before that will turn some heads and have a positive effect on the other players in the squad because they need some serious lifting.

Just after those comments on the game the interviewer said to Karl

“if you beat Millwall with you as manager and you are guaranteed instant immortality among Charlton supporters”

as Robinson laughed off the comments and also gave a little joke of his own saying

“I`m not, how can you have a Scouser with immortality in South London?”.

But then he came on more serious.

“it`s not about me, it`s never about me, it`s about the badge that we wear every day, the club is immortality in everyone`s heart already” he added

What I love about Karl Robinson is that he can go from joking around to serious in the matter of seconds and when the seriousness comes out he makes so much sense and his positivity is great, I have spoken to many fans about him and they all say the same thing about his interviews and Karl trust me if your reading this you are guaranteed immortality!

He also hinted at a few debuts that may be handed out at The Valley on Saturday afternoon but he this is what he told the club.

“there will be a few debuts, there is one or two changes that I will make, but there is a lot of newness to the club a lot of getting to know each other again so it will take time to build a rapport” he said.

Although that is worrying I`m not blaming Karl for coming clean there because he has no other choice but to try and build as many relationships as possible before the big game it`s just unfortunate timing of him coming in because he has to now play two games against Millwall in just his 9th game in charge of the team so it`s been hard on him as well as the players to get used to their new environments and team-mates.

The only thing that disappointed me about this interview was that Karl Robinson named a favourite of his and that man is Tony Watt.

I don`t think it is fair to single out a player as a favourite because it can have a knock-off effect on the rest of the team but this is what he had to say about Watt.

“what I have seen in my time here the fans like that bit of individuality, they like that maverick, but a maverick who has a passion for the game, not a maverick who has no desire to play here, but he has desire to stay and play”.

He added

“with that inclusive with the maverick that he is he makes you get off the seat every time he gets the football” he said.

He then went on to say that Rick Holmes is that type of player and so is Nathan Byrne when we finally see him in action.

As the press conference came to an end Robinson then revealed that Lee Bowyer is coming in for the training sessions as a man who can drive the players forward especially the academy players because he has been in the same position himself and Robinson understands how much it means to the players to have someone like Bowyer around, someone who has been in the Charlton academy and made it far in that game as he made over 200 Leeds United when they were one of the top teams in England.

What do you think of the press conference? Did you think that Robinson was right to name a favourite?
