Chris Iwelumo has his chance to impress Scotland boss Alex McLeish tonight when he plays for the Scottish B side against a Republic of Ireland B side.
This is not the first time that Chris Iwelumo has been named in a B squad, the last coming five years ago when Berti Vogts called him up, but due to play-off commitments with Stoke at the time he had to withdraw, and another chance has not come about until now. However, Alex McLeish is looking forward to working with the Addicks striker: “Alan Pardew has been pleased with him, and tells me the lad is a passionate Scot,” said McLeish on the Addicks website
“He’s a strong lad, and has been scoring goals in England for a few years now, and it was difficult to ignore him.
“He started out at St Mirren a few years ago and has matured well.
“There have been calls for him to be included earlier in the qualifying process but the timing wasn’t right because all the players in the senior squad were doing exceptionally well.
“So now is the time and this is why the B games are so important for us, in terms of getting a look at one or two players.”
Depending on how well Chris Iwelumo performs tonight the Scotland B side this shouldn’t be the last port of call for the 29 year old in his international career.

Iwelumo deserves this B chance with Scotland, he probably is good enough to make the step up, which if he keeps scoring and playing well for the Addicks he will.
We will see….
I have a lot of faith in him and I’d love to see him playing for Scotland 🙂
Ever since he joined Col U he’s gone on about Scotland. Last year he said he would have to change his name to McIwelumo to get in. 🙂
It worked lol!
Yeah, will he be in the proper squad though? 🙂
Possibly, had the strikers Scotland had around a few years ago been all they had to go by I would say easily. I hope so, but being honest I’m not sure, at his age and the quality Scotland have now he’ll do well?
Yeah they are certainly an improving side. We will wait and see…
Certainly have! LOL 🙂
they are certainly on the up of late……………….
Haha yeah – so near but so far eh! We are all so proud of ’em up here 🙂 😉
Don’t think Big Chris can make it into Scots first XI…
How come? Old news now that Big Eck’s gone eh 🙁
May well have a better chance…we will see… 🙂
