“Its just all about beating Doncaster on Sunday” – Charlton man on Bowyer and his award

|

Young Player of The Year 2019 George Lapslie has had a pretty good breakthrough season appearing 32 times in a Charlton shirt, but now George understands that to emerge from the playoffs victorious the players have to believe in everything Bowyer is doing and what he has done. Lapslie is a Charlton fan himself so he knows as well as all of us how much it means to get promoted and he will do whatever it takes to win us promotion to the Championship.

George Lapslie spoke with the club’s website and here is what he had to say

“To get the promotion we’re all going to have to be reading off Bowyer’s script, if he pulls me aside and says ‘George you’re not starting or I’m dropping you’, then he’s doing that because he believes he’ll win the game and I believe it as well.”

“Competition is very tough now even just to get in the squad, so I still don’t think my place in the squad is safe, I’ve still got to train hard to, hopefully, be involved on Sunday. We’ll keep looking forward to the playoffs. We won’t look to Wembley just yet, it’s just all about beating Doncaster on Sunday and then in the home tie with The Valley backing us.”

George is certainly transforming into a proper Charlton player give it a few years and we might even see him wearing that captain’s armband which has been held by some of the greats of Charlton and I hope that George is on his way to getting that status.

Looking ahead to Doncaster I can see Lapslie being on the bench for this one, but I’m sure whenever he gets on the pitch he will make the impact that Bowyer wants him to in those central defensive midfielder roles, he is a hard worker and always gives 100% so well-done George for winning Young Player of The Year 2019!
