Igor Expresses Delight After Long Injury Spell

|

Not the result we were hoping for on Saturday was it? Charlton looked a shadow of their former selves on a cold weekend in Lancashire as Joey Barton’s Fleetwood Town manage to see of the Addicks in a match that was stripped of entertainment.

Although from a match that was made up of entirely negative thoughts and plays, there was one positive that came out of it for one individual and that is Igor Vetokele as he made his return to the first-team replacing Ben Reeves in the 73rd minute after we went 1-0 down from a Ched Evans goal.

Since dislocating his shoulder in the 2-0 away win against Walsall back in November, the Angolan striker has been working hard to get back to full fitness amongst his host of injuries he has suffered during his time as an Addick. He has seen a couple loan moves in his duration including a loan to Roland’s beloved Sint-Truidense V.V. in which he netted 13 times in 44 games. Now is the time we need him to find his form more than ever following the sale of top scorer Karlan Grant and failing in replacing him was a huge mistake by the management, so now players like Igor need to make a name for themselves now or never.

Igor Vetokele

Vetokele spoke with the South London Press’ Louis Mendez and he had this to say about his return to first-team football

“It felt good to be back on the pitch, I’ve been out for eleven weeks. I’m doing my best to get back now as fast as possible. We’re all a bit p****d that we lost the game. We’re going to work hard and hopefully next week we can win again.

“They told me it was going to take twelve or thirteen weeks but I’m back after eleven weeks. On Tuesday I played an u23 game. I’m good with the way the injury went. I’m going to do my best to get back to my old form and give them (the fans) something back. There are still fifteen games left. It’s all about getting as many points as possible and we’ll see at the end of the season.” Read the full article in the link below.

He sounds like he’s ready to fight for his position and that’s brilliant, it’s exactly what we need from him right now. We need every player to be fighting for their place in the team and with that, we will become a better and more determined team out on the pitch.

If he can rediscover that form he had when he first came here then we should be fine up front with Lyle Taylor coming back soon, them two up top in the best of form could rattle other defences and I’m sure it will when it comes to it.

Next up we play Chris Powell’s Southend United at The Valley and it will not be an easy game by any means as we look to put a hard gut-punching result behind us and move on in the best way possible, hopefully Igor can get fit during the week and help us out with a goal or two.
