“I’d rather he did a Curbishley” – Charlton fans on the latest news regarding a move away for Lee Bowyer

|

Recent news has pointed towards Birmingham City being interested in a move for Charlton manager Lee Bowyer as Pep Clotet will be leaving St Andrews at the end of the season.

Can you get 20/20 on this Charlton Academy Players quiz? I bet you can’t, but feel free to prove me wrong!

Who is this?

Lee Bowyer has had to put up with it all at Charlton since he became caretaker manager back in 2018 taking over from Karl Robinson as he opted for a move to Oxford United to get away from the owner troubles at The Valley.

Bowyer managed to take the side from 13th into the playoff places but was knocked out in the semi-finals by Shrewsbury Town, however, the next season would be one to remember despite Roland Duchatlet’s reign still raining hard on the parade.

Bowyer led the team to the playoff final and secured promotion to the Championship via a dramatic final against Sunderland at Wembley where Patrick Bauer scored a 94th-minute winner to send the Addicks fans into dreamland.

Doing all of that by spending nothing really is something special and will be something a lot of teams will pick up on and now the recent owner struggles are making it even harder for Bowyer to do his job, but he can he pull it off again by keeping Charlton in the Championship? I think he can come together with a masterplan.

Only thing is recent speculation has raised concerns that Bowyer could leave for his former club Birmingham at the end of the season and that would be a hammer blow for Charlton although it could pave the way for Johnnie Jackson to become manager, but I think Bowyer would want to take him with him.

Do you think Lee Bowyer will leave for Birmingham?

Yes

No

I don’t think Bowyer would leave, his loyalty to Charlton so far has only proved one thing – he wants to stay for the long-term and that is something I’m sure every Charlton fan can get behind and I sure hope his loyalty is as good as it has been so far.

We asked the Charlton fans what they thought of the latest news linking Bowyer to Birmingham and here is what you all had to say!

It’s highly unlikely that Lee Bowyer is coming to Birmingham. The board are looking at experienced managers with a proven track record. Names like Chris Hughton, Michael Laudrup and Warnock being mentioned. Lee Bowyer will be well down the list. I’d rather have him than Colin with his hoofball. Good luck to Charlton in your relegation battle.

Yes I would like to see Bowyer than Clough to be honest but it will be someone who has not been mentioned I guess.Cant see Hughton,Warnock or Laudrup coming here because they would want their own backroom staff and a say in things and thats probably not on Blues remit.

Bow needs to focus on the next 9 games. At the end of that he will know wher we are in the league and more importantly where we are with ownership. Unless he is shown more by the club than so far during his tenure, no one could blame him for jumping ship. Not sure if Birmingham would give him the platform to build on his record so far.

Whatever happens he has done a fantastic job whilst we cite the promotion of last season, getting us into the play offs the previous season was no mean feat and unexpected when he took over.

Hopefully, he will stay with us, but you never know in this game.
