Matt Holland has signed a new 1 year deal at The Valley. Holland was out of contract this summer.

Pardew has decided to retain the services of Matty Holland after he put in some quality performances last season under his new gaffer.

Talking of his new deal to the official website he said:”It`s been a funny old month really,” ‘It’s nice to get it all sorted and look forward to the new season.

‘The manager spoke to me before last season finished and said he wanted me to say.’

‘It’s just taken some sorting out. I spoke to another couple of clubs as well this summer but I’m pleased that the outcome is that I’m staying here and I look forward to trying to get Charlton back in the Premiership next season.’

The former Republic of Ireland international continued: ‘It’s quite new to me really, being out of contract.

‘Throughout my career I’ve always finished the season still having a contract for the next year so this has been something completely different.

‘Obviously the situation the club was in last season was difficult and I had to try to put that to one side and try to do my best to keep the club in the Premiership.

‘It was disappointing that we didn’t quite manage to stay up but hopefully we can try to put that right and get ourselves back into the top division.’

pleased to see Matty stay. I would expect him to be captain next season and could be a big player for us.
