Here is the striker we missed out on as Sunderland make swoop

Lee Bowyer mentioned last night that we missed out on a striker to League One Playoff opponents Sunderland, it is unfortunate that we are in a position where players would prefer a League One side over a Championship side, but when you hear who the player is it is no longer a surprise.

Doncaster top scorer John Marquis is the man who is set to join Sunderland and Lee Bowyer is obviously disappointed at missing out on him. Of course, he is a good player, but would he fit in with Charlton? Definitely not.

The former Millwall man is nowhere near liked by us Charlton fans and it would divide opinion signing a player like him due to the history he holds with The Lions. I personally wouldn’t have minded him being here, look at Jonny Williams came from a team we don’t like and now we love him, things like that in football change all the time and it could have done with Marquis.

The other thing that sticks out is that it looks as though we were prepared to spend money on John, so do we have money there to spend? It is very possible looking at the situation that has just come to light. I think we can use that money a bit better, maybe spend it on Josh Cullen?

From what I have been told by my source John Marquis is going to Sunderland after rejecting Charlton.

What about Lyle Taylor’s links with Millwall?? Don’t forget he started out with them.

Would rather have a player who wants to test himself at Championship level than content with the mediocrity of League One to be honest.
