After being with the club for so long Scott Wagstaff’s time with Charlton finally came to an end earlier this week with Chris Powell deciding to release the 23-year-old.

Powell, as he told the official website, made the decision with “a heavy heart” but felt it was in the best interests of all concerned.

His ability isn’t questioned, however with Powell unable to give him first-team assurances he felt it was best that he went to a club that could. He said: ‘He is now at the stage where he needs to get his career going.

‘He was an integral part of our League One campaign, but this year has been harder for him with regards to playing time.

‘I don’t want that to go to waste and I think that in the long term he will benefit from playing regularly. It was with a heavy heart that the decision was made.’

The midfielder had been with Charlton since he was eight-years-old.
