Glovers Face Difficult Task

Expectation levels have risen since the Brighton fiasco and with Charlton now sitting in second place, a win is confidently expected by many.

Football’s a funny old game. Quite often a shocking result can trigger an upsurge in form, Norwich never looked back after that opening day drubbing by Colchester last season, albeit that they did change their manager. Conversely, Leeds’ triumph in the FA Cup at Old Trafford derailed their promotion bid for a while.

Charlton are now sitting in second place, six points behind Brighton with the Seagulls stuuering a bit. A win against relegation zone ensconsed Yeovil is anticipated by both fans and management. Phil Parkinson’s main task may be to keep his team’s feet on the ground and to stop complacency creeping in.

Parkinson will want to keep the side that has performed so well as settled as possible. Rob Elliot – in outstanding form at present – will continue in goal, with Francis, Dailly and Fry in front of him. Gary Doherty, rested from the starting Xl against Barnet, will return to partner Dailly at the heart of the defence.

Tuesday’s 4-5-1 formation will be ditched in favour of the more popular 4-4-2 system. Wagstaff, who suffered a recurrence of the dead leg problem he had at Peterborough, is expected to be fit to continue on the right. Semedo served his suspension against Barnet and is free to resume his productive partnership with Therry Racon in the middle of the park. Johnnie Jackson will continue on the left.

Paul Benson, another missing from the starting line-up on Tuesday, will partner Lee Martin up front. Martin was ineligible for the cup match and Joe Anyinsah is still sidelined.

Confidence levels are high right now and it will be disappointing if the Addicks fail to pick up three points from this game.
