The Charlton academy is a very strong one and it has produced names that you see in the Championship and Premier League such as Jonjo Shelvey, Carl Jenkinson, Joe Gomez and more recently Ademola Lookman.

Now that Lookman has gone it`s time for another to step in but which one is ready to step up to the first-team? Players like Ezri Konsa and Joe Aribo are two main contenders showing their worth in the senior ranks, but now there are a few more who are eager to step up such as Josh Umerah and Mikhail Kennedy who are both strikers, Regan Charles-Cook and George Lapslie who are both midfeilders have also been seen on the bench of a few games and also competing in many academy games, Terell Thomas and Kenneth Yao have been keeping the clean sheets in defence for the development squad.

Those are just a few names of what we might come to expect from the future as the youngsters grow in to their roles at the club, many of them are very close to joining up with first-team squad but if they want that they have got to keep up the confidence to do well and listen to what Jason Euell and his team have to say because they know exactly what they are doing.

The U18 squad won 6-0 against Cardiff at Sparrows Lane on Saturday showing exactly what they can do when they put their minds to the game, but the goal scorers were none of the players I mentioned earlier they are in fact first-year-scholars and still have a lot to prove before they are moved up a notch, the goal scorers were Alex Willis who scored twice, Albie Morgan who tucked away a penalty, Brendan Sarpong-Wiredu, Timmy Abraham and trialist Joey Barone ending the scoring at 69 minutes to cap off an emphatic victory for the young Addicks.

Is there any young players you know of that will do well?
