Fortune Return Unlikely

When Jon Fortune made a surprise return to Charlton during pre-season training the chances of a return to SE7 looked on.

This is something that might still happen, however Phil Parkinson says that this return is simple to get him fit again, Parkinson told The News Shopper: “Jon is working hard and training with us.

“He and his agent asked me right at the start of the pre-season if he could come in and do a pre-season.

“Jon is a great friend of everybody here and of the club and is very highly regarded.

“We are trying to push him hard to get him back to where he should be because he is only 29.

“He played against Tottenham here in midweek in a very competitive game which he came through well.”

The 29-year-old has been made aware of the situation at the club and even though a contract for a return to The Valley is a possibility Parkinson expects that it’s more likely his career will continue elsewhere, adding: “We`ve told Jon what our position is and he is using it very much as a tool to get himself fit and ready to get a contract either here or somewhere else.

“The likelihood is it might be somewhere else.”

Jon could do a job for us if fit and I would not be against giving him a one year deal. While we have three Central Defenders plus Semedo in reserve we have seen in the past just how often they can be injured or suspended. Jon would, at least, have his heart in the Club.
