Elliot’s Whole New Ball Game

Charlton goalkeeper Rob Elliott is a big cricket fan and if he gets his way he will soon have some involvement with Kent County Cricket Club.

Elliot (who plays for Kent village sides Frindsbury and Harbledown) hopes to assist England wicket keeper Geraint Jones over the summer but he’ll need to convince Kent coach Paul Farbrace that this is the right thing to do, Elliot told BBC Radio Kent: “Geraint likes to relate goalkeeping to wicketkeeping so I hope I can assist.

“I love cricket as much as I love football and I would be fascinated to see the professional side of the sport.

“Asking to be involved would be like a Charlton fan meeting the footballers. I’m a massive Kent fan, so I would feel like a little kid meeting the players.”

As long as he doesn’t pick up any injuries then I can’t see any harm in this, in many ways he would only be doing the reverse of what Ian Botham used to do (playing professional football when not playing cricket) without actually getting involved in playing of games for Kent.
