Duo Unlikely To Return To Charlton

Following the 1-0 defeat at Barnet on Saturday Phil Parkinson admitted it’s unlikely we’ll see Grant Basey or David Mooney in Charlton shirts this season.

Basey is on trial with Aberdeen and could earn a contract with The Scottish Premier League side, however even if it doesn’t work out for the defender it’s unlikely he’ll be offered a new contract at SE7, Parkinson told The News Shopper: “We haven`t offered Grant a contract at this particular moment and there are reasons for that so Aberdeen wanted to look at him and he goes with our best wishes.

“He`s up there at the moment and I think he`s going to play for them this week and we`ll see how that goes.”

Reading have told Mooney that he’s free to leave The Royals and this has seen reports that Parkinson would try to resign him after a loan at The Valley last season but The Addicks boss thinks this is unlikely, adding: “There`s no plans to bring back Dave at the moment.”

Mooney doesn’t surprise me at all as other clubs are interested and could pay the asking price, as I’d doubt the striker would leave Reading without a fee. Basey leaving would be a shame after all the time he’s been with us and I still think that he’d have something to offer us, however Parkinson knows the situation best of all doesn’t he.

Basey I am sorry about. Mooney, I would pay Reading a fee to keep him!
