Dillon Phillips on Saturday’s draw with Bristol Rovers

|

Dillon Phillips had a good game in windy conditions on Saturday making one of the saves of the season in the process after Jonson Clarke-Harris swooped in a curling free-kick only to be met by a full-stretched Dillion Phillips in the Charlton goal on the stroke of half-time.

Obviously, at the start of the season, Dillon was no-where near as good as he is now, although there are still some improvements to be made in his game, he is not far off what we want him to be. He has made much different game-saving saves, one I can remember off the top of my head is the one against Accrington at The Valley which was a very controversial game.

The Charlton shot-stopper spoke with The South London Press after Saturday’s game with Louis Mendez, here’s what he had to say…

“It’s eight points, anything can happen. We go into the next game. A little break now then we go into Bradford at home, hopefully, take three points there, at home where we’re really good. Then just see what happens. It’s out of our hands. Just keep winning games and if teams drop points, they drop points. We’ll just take some good form into the playoffs or get into that top two. Whatever happens, happens, and we’re all be there and willing to fight for the team.”

Sounds like him and the team have still not given up hope of that pie in the sky that is the automatic promotion places and it’s good to see that the team are still fired up and raring to secure that place, yes it is an outside chance now, but we are still fighting and if we don’t secure a place at least we can go in to the playoffs with a good string of results.

Phillips also spoke about the weather conditions in which was a horrendous 90 minutes of cold, windy weather…

“Horrible conditions, probably the worst for football with the wind. We knew it wasn’t going to be easy, but we knew it wasn’t going to be easy with the weather conditions being fine or how they were. Happy with a point, disappointed that we didn’t win but seven points in a week is a great week and we’re moving in the right direction.”

Now that this busy week is over Charlton get a well-deserved break, well at least some of the players do as the international break commences. Bottom of the league Bradford are our next opponents and they will be playing Blackpool on Saturday, so we will go into the next one the fitter of the two teams, that is game we could really show our dominance in.
