Dillon Phillips on his man of the match performance against Fulham

|

There was no doubting that this man Dillon Phillips had a fantastic game against Fulham on Saturday midday in front of the Sky Sports cameras to show off his goalkeeping ability, which ultimately earned him Sky Sports’ Man Of The Match.

Dillon managed a few highly impressive saves towards the end, especially one from Bobby Reid as Phillips was almost caught out at his back post, but somehow managed to keep out the close shot.

He certainly earned his man of the match award at full-time that was presented to him by club captain Jason Pearce.

Speaking with The South London Press the impressive keeper had this to say

“Once that cross goes to the back-post and you know you can’t get there, it’s just about moving your feet quickly and getting across your goal and making yourself big.

“He’s given me half a chance with it and I’ve kept it out. Over the moon.

“It was a good game for the neutral to watch. I think we really stamped our mark on them in the first-half. That’s probably one of the most difficult 45 minutes they’ve had at home. That’s what we set out to do. I didn’t really have anything to do in the first-half. A couple of bits at the end of the second-half. The boys have been great in front of me all year, I haven’t had much to do in any of the games. It’s nice to be able to help them out.”

It’s no question that the Charlton academy graduate has a brilliant defence in front of him and that helps a lot towards him keeping out a lot of the shots thrown at him.

I think his mistake at Wembley against Sunderland which a lot of us would love to forget was a massive character-building moment for him because despite making this horrendous mistake he managed to cough up a decent performance after that and it has made him an even more solid keeper than before.

Phillips continued to talk, this time about Alexsander Mitrovic’s goal

“I heard it might be offside, you’re going to get that. You’re going to get some and you’re going to lose some with the officials. It is what it is. You can’t change that now. It’s a good point for us and it could have been more.”

It was very unlucky that it wasn’t given as offside, you could see how much it hurt the Charlton keeper when it hit the back of the net, he was very disappointed also probably something to do with the fact he’s a Charlton fan, but still he really wants to do well and I’m 100% behind the lad!
