The pair have been a massive loss to the side in the last few months and if they can return for the West Ham games it’s going to give us a better chance of survival.

The lads jetted out to the training complex in Marbella on Monday and the hard work started for them on Tuesday.

Pardew said, ‘The facilities here at the training ground are absolutely first class, just what we need – and the weather’s been surprisingly hot!

‘All the lads have trained really hard and I’m delighted that Darren and Luke have come through a very extensive training session with flying colours.

‘The rest of the squad have been put through their paces with high-intensity morning and afternoon sessions and I’m pleased to say that we’ve sustained no fresh injuries.’

Assistant manager Phil Parkinson told the official site: ‘The attitude of the players has been excellent.

‘They’re really responding well to the hard work we’ve put them through and are looking sharp.

‘You can see they’ve got the bit between their teeth.’

With Charlton’s FA Cup affair finished for another season the Addicks aren’t back in action until the visit of West Ham next Saturday. Pardew is hoping that this mid season pre-season is going to give the reds an advantage for the run in.

The battle to stay up is not how Chalton and West Ham perform its all about Wigan, its absolutely no use taking points off each other without Wigan losing games as well. Two of the current bottom three will go down but can you drag Wigan into the fight?

We’ve opened it up in league 1 now and there are 16 clubs who could still go down. Makes it very exciting!
