Close, Very Close at the Top!

The Easter League 1 schedule has left things amazingly tight at the top of the table, with Charlton getting right back into the hunt for automatic promotion following two wins.

Norwich City look almost certain to secure one of the promotion places (but anything is possible) and win the title, however the race for second place and the other automatic spot is very much on!

Swindon Town’s impressive form continued with back-to-back 3-0 wins over Leeds United (at Elland Road) and at home against Tranmere Rovers, which left The Robins in second place on 76 points at the end of Easter Monday.

Our bitter rivals Millwall briefly climbed into second place on Good Friday after a 1-1 home draw against Brentford with a 2-1 away win at Colchester securing them third place for now on 75 points.

Leeds’ home defeat against Swindon made it four straight defeats for them but they recovered with a nervy 2-1 win at Yeovil Town on Monday to ensure that they stayed in fourth place on 74 points.

We’re behind Leeds but only on goal difference now after 1-0 wins away at MK Dons and at The Valley against Carlisle United on Monday, our 74 points means we’re just two points behind Swindon at the moment with everything to play for.

Due to the fact that they currently hold second place, and are on such a good run of form Swindon will be the favourites to retain this place however it looks as though this battle might well go right down to the wire with four sides maybe facing a final day showdown to secure that second automatic promotion spot?

If Norwich stutter then it isn’t completely impossible that the closing pack could close in on The Canaries with us among five sides that might be battling not only for one of two automatic promotion spots but also the title on the final weekend of the League 1 season?

I’ll settle for automatic promotion as the runners-up for now though!

It’s so tight at the top isn’t it. Norwich aren’t completely away however I think they’ve almost done enough now? If we come through the Southampton game at the weekend with three points that could leave us in the driving seat for second?

I’d also settle for second place but I just don’t think we’ll get it so we’ll have to settle for the play offs.

The most important thing for us to do if we get into second place is to force home this advantage!

Win or lose we must get a result on saturday. A draw only helps the clubs that we are competing against. The three fighting you for 2nd and the three fighting us for 6th.

A points is a point and could make a difference in the end but I think we’ll see two sides going all out to get all 3 points as we both know we need them. Anything short of victory for you though and it’s play-off hopes over.
