Charlton to Reward Randolph with a New Contract

Right up until the start of last season Darren Randolph looked at though he would be leaving Charlton. Eventually a new contract was signed with The Addicks, even so the 23-year-old didn’t get a chance at all and showed his frustration so he was told that he could leave in January.

No offers came in for Randolph so he stayed yet still he had no involvement, despite an injury to Ro Elliot other goalkeepers came in on loan to deputise until Elliot got injured again in March. This opened the door to the Irish goalkeeper and he played the remainder of the season growing in strength.

Randolph’s performances didn’t go unnoticed and this has seen Burnley linked with him but in an attempt to kill these rumours he’s been offered a new contract at SE7, Parkinson told The South London Press “We will be offering a contract to Darren. It`s been a good turnaround for him and he`s done very well.

“If he signs for us then he`ll be competing with Rob for the number one shirt. I`ve told them both to go away this summer and come back ready for a battle.”

The academy graduate has started to show the potential that it was always thought he had, with it looking like all he needed was a constant run of games and this hasn’t really been something that he has had before.

If Randolph does sign this contract it certainly will complete a remarkable 12-month turnaround for the Irishman and will leave us with two quality young goalkeepers competing for the number one spot at The Valley, which can only be a good thing for us.
