Charlton sign overseas player

|

Not exactly what we were expecting to dig up today, but a deal that was done last month has been surfaced on Twitter by Alan Nixon from The Sun and we have signed 16-year old Matt Dench from ECU Joondalup in Australia which is the same place we signed goalkeeper Ashley Maynard-Brewer from.

Can you name all of Charlton’s England internationals? Why don’t you have a go and see if you can name them all!

Who is this?

The Aussie had a trial for Charlton last month and earned a contract after impressing the coaching staff.

Dench has played a couple of games for the Joondalup first team this season, but is ready to take the big step into English football.

The youngster was pictured with Joondalup manager Kenny Lowe donning Charlton’s 2017/18 jersey.

Dench explained his need to get into the English game to the Joondalup website and here is what he had to say

“Over there is a lot more of a professional environment, and everyone is trying to make it professionally, so the intensity is far higher than Australia, the trails were tough as I was an outsider, but I just kept going and trying no matter if I had a bad session or not, as I thought of it as my last opportunity to get into English football.”

He does come with high regard from his peers and looks to have a bright future ahead of him, so I’m happy we will be taking on someone who has something about them as it’s said “he can change a game with just a pass or a touch”.

The Addicks fans are still waiting on news about Alex Gilbey and Conor Washington as the deals are being finalized and awaiting EFL approval, but are expected to sign very soon.
