Charlton Keep Faint Hopes Alive

The expected war of attrition against Aidy Boothroyd’s long ball specialists was won by Charlton thanks to a 21st minute goal from on loan striker Nicky Forster.

Lloyd Sam’s trickery was all too much for John-Joe O’Toole, who had to be stretchered off with a serious looking knee injury.

Sam’s subsequent cross was peach and a gift that Nicky Forster was never going to spurn.

Charlton had to survive the odd scare towards the end but were good value for their win. Former Valley striker, Kevin Lisbie, received a straight red card, to go with an earlier yellow, for a late clash with Bailey. John White was perhaps fortunate not to join him after a challenge put Scott Wagstaff in the advertising hoardings. Surprisingly, the referee took no action, to the relief of the Colchester defender who was already on a yellow card.
