Charlton could be facing Jermain Defoe?

Victory over Luton Town in their FA Cup second round replay could see Charlton Athletic facing a former youngster, Jermain Defoe, who left the club to join West Ham United back in 1999.

Now 28 years old, Defoe’s scoring record against Charlton is nearly as good as his record against any other club, scoring 6 times in his last 8 appearance against the Addicks.

If Charlton do get through to the third round, they will be playing at White Hart Lane on the 8th or 9th January 2010. However, the most recent time the two teams met in the Premier League, on that occasion at the Valley in May 2007, it was goals from Dimitar Berbatov and Jermain Defoe that helped to seal the relegation of Alan Pardew’s struggling team. Defoe came on with just 6 minutes to play before cruelly scoring from outside the box in stoppage against the club he left as a teenager.

It’s been a long road since that day with a lot more downs than ups, despite the improving form under Phil Parkinson’s management this season. A trip north of the river and an unlikely away victory would be a perfect way for the Addicks, with Spurs ex-player Johnnie Jackson in fine scoring form, to get something back against the London rivals who relegated the club less than 4 years ago.

I hope you do get through, it’d be good to see Johnny Jack back at the lane. I always thought he could’ve been a lt better than he’s turned out to be if i’m completely honest but he’s starting to find a bit of form and as you say, he’s scoring aswell. It’s a pity he’ll not be leaving the Lane in a good mood.

If we do get through I think that Tottenham are so good at scoring goals I cannot see us getting anything from you….it’s great to see such a famous club go back to this type of tantalisig soccor
