Born in Longvic, France, Bougherra – nicknamed ‘Magic’ – has more than 10 caps for the Desert Foxes of Algeria and is known for his uncompromising style at the back, as well as his willingness to bring the ball out of defence.
He made his name with FC Gueugnon and then joined Crewe Alexandra on loan at the end of January 2006.
Bougherra made his debut in English football the following month against Brighton & Hove Albion, and scored during his fourth game for Alex in a home win over Coventry City.
However, upon Crewe’s relegation from the Championship last May (after 11 games), he joined Wednesday with the Owls parting with around £300,000.
He would go on to make 29 appearances for Wednesday, including three matches alongside on-loan Addicks winger Lloyd Sam earlier this season.
Bougherra found the net twice for the Yorkshire outfit, both in November against Ipswich Town and West Bromwich Albion.

hope he breaks his leg in the first game greedy ba£$%6d
Exactly! So greedy. If Curbs had got all the money that has been splashed his season, you’d have been in top six, or challenging. Hope Parky does well as number 2, despite him lealing also for more money… Colchester fan.
Matt your lost. Curbs left us at then end of last season. Pards is the man you must be going on about.
Did well at Wednesday but is he up to the demands of the Premiership?
