Charlton announce crucial contract news

|

Charlton has always been known as a selling club, especially in recent years with Roland Duchatelet at the helm as he agreed to many low offers for players which quite a few clubs took advantage of, one of which is Joe Gomez as Liverpool snapped up the youngster for a fee of £3.5million, he is now a Champions League winner with The Kop.

Can you get 10/10 on this Charlton Premier League Years Quiz? I bet you can’t, but feel free to prove us wrong!

What year did Charlton first play in the Premier League?

However, it looks like those days are finally coming to an end as 20-year-old Alfie Doughty has had a clause in his contract trigged meaning he will stay with the club until at least the summer of 2021 which is great news for all Addicks fans who have seen this young man flourish with bags of potential, there’s a lot more to come from Alfie.

Lee Bowyer spoke to Richard Cawley of The South London Press and here is what he had to say

“With Alfie there was a clause in his contract which triggers something – and we’ve triggered that, so that’s another year.”

This could be a sign of things to come, we know now more than ever that our youth will play a very important role in taking this club back to the Premier League, not just in the terms of quality being injected into the side, but when the time does come to actually sell them on their fees will be a lot higher than what they were with Roland and if we can just keep hold of some of them for a bit longer their price will skyrocket and finally we will be the ones reaping the rewards.

Also right-back Adam Matthews is in contract talks with Steve Gallen as Bowyer revealed today

“I think he’s enjoying it here and I like what he has done, he is playing well, especially of late. His fitness is up now – you’ve got to remember he didn’t have a pre-season, so it took a little time to get up to speed.

“Steve has spoken to his agent. There have been some positive chats there.”

I remember Matthews primarily from his time at Celtic and I knew he had the quality in him, I think he deserves this new contract.

The Welshman has been keeping Chris Solly out of the team, but what is good to know is that Adam has been playing as well as what he has been with no pre-season so I think he will be even better for us next season if he signs this deal.

Positive news to start the day just how I like it!

  • Mr John West says:

Well, yes on first reading but surely his salary will go up but fearing it won’t and will be exactly the same position as Gomez and before and sold for peanuts. The usual Charlton way and fearing about the motive of this new Ownership and more so when they state it is the location of the club which is important and they do not own it all
We shall soon see, let alone the summer window and they stating that they are budgeting for Championship and League One. God help us

To be fair and a lot of players Bows has signed are either not match fit or completely unfit and good ole CAFC take so long to get them fit and paying them a wage to sit in the treatment room!! 1 Just saying.
