THE FACTS
Playoff hero Patrick Bauer is out of contract this summer with Blackburn Rovers looking to be on the radar to pick up the German centre-back for the bargain price of nothing if Charlton does not act on this soon.
Bauer spoke with the South London Press ahead of the contract negotiations and here is what he had to say
“Today is everything about celebrating the promotion with Charlton but I think next week the club will probably speak with me about the future, if they want to, it’s not just me, I think every player wants to play at the highest level possible. But now we are up, and we will speak.”
“For me, it would be best to do it as soon as possible because from now until the season starts there is not a lot of time. I can’t have a better two weeks – I think it is impossible. Becoming a father on the same day as getting to the play-off final and scoring the winner in the final – I’m absolutely delighted. I’m speechless.”
MY OPINION
Patrick Bauer needs to be put on a contract as soon as possible, just give the man what he wants because after what he did for us at Wembley he will go down as a Charlton legend, the man who put us up with just seconds to go.
I hope he stays because he is a brick wall in defence and he can play a decent game alongside either Naby Sarr and Jason Pearce. If he does decide to leave I won’t blame him, but I won’t be happy with how the club is handling the situation, we have the money there we just need Roland to release the funds, that’s what is so infuriating about this whole mess.
FAN REACTION
Honestly think any chance of any player resigning hinges on bowyer staying .

Seemed set on leaving at the start of the season but after the season he’s had and all the emotions he’s been through this last fortnight….can see him being here for a long time #OurBFG #cafc

I’m sure if he gets offers something that resembles what others are paying in the Championship then why would he leave?

Staying would guarantee first team football in the Championship for Patrick. And he’s now a club legend after scoring the winner at Wembley. I reckon he’ll stay, unless he wants to return to Germany.
