Bowyer talks about his new ‘luxury’

|

Having a lot of players to choose from is not something Lee Bowyer has been accustomed to since becoming the Charlton manager in 2018, but now just shy of two years since his appointment Bowyer is feeling the luxury of having a selection of players to rotate around.

Can you get 20/20 on this Charlton Academy Players quiz? I bet you can’t, but feel free to prove me wrong!

Who is this?

Jonny Williams and Andre Green were rested for the trip away to Nottingham Forest and that is something Bowyer has wanted to be doing since the start, but limited funds and injuries have restricted that from happening time and time again.

ESI finally bought the club from Roland Duchatelet last month and have since brought in three new arrivals Aiden McGeady, Matt Smith and David Davis all on loan.

We must still be working with Duchatelet’s budget for the rest of the season if its just loans we can bring in at the moment, but saying that we did have a bid rejected for Winston Reid in January so there must have been some money there to spend last month.

The gaffer spoke about his new luxury of players in his press conference this morning

“We’ve got numbers that means we can rest players now. We left Jonny [Williams] and Andre [Green] behind on Tuesday, so it’s a bit of a luxury and it means those players can come back refreshed.”

It might just be a few loans that have come in, but it has made the world of difference having fit players who also come along with some of the pedigree we need to survive in this league and I firmly believe that we can stay up this season. Onwards and upwards!
