Bowyer full of praise after Burton victory

|

Another day another 2-1 win, but it was not an easy one for Lee Bowyer’s side as we only just managed to edge out the Brewers on a cold night in SE7. Things started off very well and by the looks of it according to plan. Lyle Taylor was brought down in the box by Burton man John Brayford and a very calmly taken penalty by Taylor was to follow to net his 14th league one goal of the season.

Around thirteen minutes later the referee spotted a handball by Patrick Bauer which resulted in a penalty and Lucas Akins took a decent penalty to send Dillon Phillips the wrong way. However, Charlton were not down and out, Lyle Taylor swung a cross in and it Ben Reeves’ diving header put the Addicks 2-1 up after 33 minutes.

Charlton managed to hold out for the victory and it was a hard-fought one too, Lee Bowyer was full of praise and he spoke with the News Shopper after the game.

“It was a good dogged performance, not every game is going to be pretty. Burton are a good side, they came down from the Championship, they’ve got some good players that can hurt you. I thought we dug deep, grinded out a result, and sometimes you have to do that especially after the effort the lads put in on Saturday on a heavy pitch.

Bowyer continued…

“I thought it wasn’t the best of games, but these are the ones we didn’t win last season, but we are grinding them out. That’s a credit to the lads and the fans, especially second half because they could tell the lads were tired. But they got behind us and kept driving them on and helped them get over the line. For me they are great wins when you have to grind them out.”

I know Bowyer loves a game that we grind out as he said this would be a game we would have slipped up in last season and this season we have had a few slip-ups, but I think we have improved since last season in that department and we beat a strong Burton side deservedly seeing as most of our players were knackered from the weekend after a long hard shift against Portsmouth.

On Saturday we take on Bristol Rovers away, this is another game we can defiantly win, but will it be as hard-fought as both of these Burton games? I hope not but I’m confident another win is on the cards.
