Bent Fee Will Be Big If He Leaves

Many newspapers had reported the Addicks were going to accept £12m for Bent after they saw his £18m move to West Ham break down.

The papers seem to think no other club will match the Hammers bid and so Bent will move on for a lower price.

This has been rubbished by Charlton Chief Executive Peter Varney.

‘We have a valuation of Darren and we will not sell for less than that,’ the Charlton chief executive told the south London press.

‘There have been other bids and they don’t meet our valuation.

‘West Ham matched our valuation and that was why they were given permission last week to speak to Darren.”No other club has managed that and as things stand Darren will be staying with Charlton. He is our player and under contract to us.’

Speaking of our star striker Peter continued ‘He was the top English scorer in the Premiership two seasons ago and second-highest last season despite missing some games with injury and being part of a struggling team.

‘We have a valuation and if that’s met the player will be allowed to talk to any interested clubs.’

So then if Bent does go it will be on our terms and at our price. Good to see little old Charlton making a stand.
