Are the Players Overworked?

A lot of people view the international break as just that, a break, but for many people the international break just means many then set off for a gruelling time with their nation.

Addicks boss Alan Pardew feels that the amount of matches that the Addicks had to play prior to the international break, with the international break then thrown in, along with further matches on top will eventually see some players, skipper Andy Reid in particular in his eyes, overworked and maybe even burnt out, ‘Andy Reid will not turn up for us until Thursday week after a tough two weeks on international duty and he then has to play at Wolves on Saturday, so it’s not easy for him,’ Alan Pardew told the media.

‘It’s not easy for any international player and I think the workload of top internationals is under-rated.

‘We have an extra eight games in this division which doesn’t help, so the international players in the Championship actually have it slightly tougher, but some of the top players have Champions League games as well, which evens that out.

‘It is a tough agenda and we have to be very careful so that we don’t overuse our players at club level – and that goes for the international managers as well.’

It is a tough one to call isn’t it, the draw back of being so good is that you will play for your country (although obviously it is an honour!), which will then mean extra games being played, this is something that we have to live with really.

My own opinion on this matter is that international windows are set aside, so players and managers know when this will happen so you simply have to compensate for this, with players rested at appropriate times.

What is the thought among the Addicks followers on this site on all of Alan Pardew’s thoughts? Are players overworked or is it all part and parcel of the game now? Share these feelings below so we can discuss them.
