Another name is thrown into the mix as businessman looks to buy Charlton

|

This ownership saga has been something that we wish would just go away, but unfortunately, it’s stuck with us for 6 years running and fans are getting tired of it, and another name has been thrown into the mix to buy Charlton Athletic.

Can you get 32/32 on this Charlton player of the year quiz? I bet you can’t, but feel free to prove me wrong!

Who won player of the year in 2020?

Thomas Sandgaard is a Danish businessman who is based in the US and is very serious about striking a deal with Duchatelet for the training ground, The Valley, and the running of the club as he will have two different parties to negotiate with.

This new name is the CEO of Colorado-based company Zynex Inc who produce medical devices, so it looks like he won’t have any trouble passing the fit and proper persons test which has been heavily criticized.

Sandgaard spoke to Richard Cawley from The South London Press about his potential for Charlton and he gave a driven response

“I think Duchatelet and his advisors need to know I’m not just another random person with a long shot who tries to see if I can do something. I’m serious and I will make this happen.

“The goal is to make this happen before the club enters a phase of potentially administration. We don’t want penalties and other things against us.

“We need to start building from day one. Let’s get it sorted out now before the season starts. I’ve done my research. I started talking to people in England towards the end of last season.

“I found that Charlton is, for me, probably the biggest potential of the clubs out there that need to be sold. They are London-based, which I prefer. The fanbase and history gives this club so much potential.

“My intention is to get hold of Duchatelet in Belgium and maybe these characters in England that have been involved and get a deal done as fast as possible.

“My ownership would provide the stability that the club needs. If we keep playing good football and win games then promotion will take care of itself.”

He sounds like he really wants to acquire Charlton and I would like to welcome him with open arms if his enthusiasm is as good his ownership, but right now I don’t want to take any more chances, the only people I want running the club right now are Peter Varney and Andrew Barclay, I think they are the only ones that we can really trust with Varney coming from an Addicks background.

Sandgaard could be a good owner but, I don’t think we should risk it, the fans have got to push for Varney and Barclay to get this takeover done.
