It was being reported yesterday that Nicky Ajose was hoping for a Charlton Athletic return this January.

News Shopper were reporting that their sources had informed them that 26 year old Ajose wanted a return to The Valley this window given he has struggled for both form and game time whilst with Bury on a loan spell in the first half of the season.

He’s scored once in nine league appearances for League One’s bottom side, and the outlet believed that informal talks have already taken place between both clubs over cancelling the loan and bringing him back.

From Charlton’s point of view, with manager Karl Robinson having his hands tied in the January market with no new signings being sanctioned owing to the ongoing takeover talk (why that impacts signings is beyond most people), but Ajose would be another option upfront and he hasn’t suddenly turned into a bad player, even if he hasn’t quite hit the ground running with us.

Bury are said to like the idea given they are paying most of his wages and they have already strengthened by bringing in Sheffield United’s James Hanson on a loan spell, so Ajose has slipped even further down their pecking order.
