Addicks Striker out for the Season

Svetoslav Todorov will not play again for the Addicks this season (maybe again) after sustaining a serious knee injury against Plymouth.

The striker was taken to hospital on Tuesday after a reckless challenge on him left him in a crumpled heap, it was quite obvious at the time it was serious, but it has now been confirmed that he has a ruptured anterior cruciate knee ligament and also a small fracture of his knee, all of which will require surgery next month. The underlining factor being his three goals this season will be his lot, as he will not feature again for the Addicks this season, with it quite probable he will not play for the Addicks again at all.

Most of the media speculation is that Svetoslav Todorov will not play professional football again, as having sustained a serious knee injury in 2003 (to his other knee) he took several years to return, so with age against him, which also hinders a recovery process this might be one injury too many. It is terrible news not only for the club, but more importantly the player, as he can be replaced (sad but true) the fact that he can’t do what he loves doing (play football) for at least a year, maybe longer if at all again must be awful for him.

This injury now leaves Chris Iwelumo, Luke Varney and Izale McLeod as the three front line strikers at the Valley, so it is even more likely that Chris Dickson will return when his loan spell with Gillingham ends next month, so the likelihood is he will get some first team action this season for sure.
