New Charlton striker Chris Iwelumo is hoping his move to The Valley will see him make his Scotland debut.

The new 6ft 4′ striker Iwelumo was born on the outskirts of Glasgow and has a Scottish mother.

The big front man who joined the Addicks on a free from Colchester Utd sees his switch to The Valley as a possible launch into the Scotland team.

He told the club’s official website www.cafc.co.uk: ‘It is every footballer’s dream to honour his country and I was very close last year.

‘There was a B international against Poland last season and they were playing at Kilmarnock, which was very close to where I grew up, and I was very surprised not to make it into the squad.

‘But I use disappointments in a positive way to get the best out of myself and if I am doing a good job at Charlton this season I am sure Scotland will come knocking.

‘Football is full of highs and lows and you have to make sure you take it on the chin and react so if I produce the same kind of form as last season hopefully that will open some doors.’

Iwelumo looks set to be Charlton’s target man this year and should have a big impact at The Valley.
