Charlton Athletic have today announced that 8 players have been released from The Valley.

Due to relegation and a lower budget for the club this year, Alan Pardew has been forced to make plenty of changes. All of the players contracts expired today, 30th June and the boards have not offered them a new deal.

The players released are: Jimmy-Floyd Hasselbaink, Talal El Karkouri, Thomas Myhre, Kevin Lisbie, Nathan Ashton, Rurik Gislason, Alistair John and Myles Weston.

Hasselbaink has been moved out after a disaster of a season for the former Chelsea man. When he was signed by that idiot Dowie everyone expected bright things from Jimmy but sadly he let us down and he did so badly. His lack of effort was always noticeable and he will be remembered as a fat Eddie Murphy and not a goal machine at The Valley.

Another striker leaving the Valley is Kevin Lisbie. Better known by most fans as Kevin Missbie. The clubs longest serving player leaves The Valley after 11 years. In that time Super Kev scored 19 goals, 3 of which was a hat trick against Liverpool with his third being pure class. Sadly injuries caused Lisbie a lot of problems and the player that had so much promise, failed to deliver.

Talal El Karkouri is reported to be moving out to Qatar, where he played for Al Gharafa on loan from the Addicks in 2006.

He will be remembered for his long range free kicks and the fact he looks like Borat! The £1m capture from Paris St Germain in 2004 scored eight goals in 87 matches for the club. The Morocco captain will be the most missed of all the released players.

The youngsters and old boy Myhre all leave the club having had very limited 1st team appearances. None will be that much of a loss to the club.

Vital Charlton wishes to thank all the players for their efforts down the years except for Hasselbaink who we are pleased to finally see the back of.

There will be plenty of new faces at the training ground when the player’s report back for pre-season training on Monday as well. New arrivals Varney, Iwelumo and McCarthy will be eager to impress, while Denmark U21 international Martin Christensen will join the squad for the first time as well. The Addicks snapped up the youngster in March but due to the transfer window being closed he will arrive on Monday. Also arriving on Monday will be fellow country man Mikkel Rygaard Jensen. Chris Dickson will also be eligible to play for the Addicks after his arrival from non league Dulwich Hamlet outside the transfer window.

Plenty of comings and goings so far then….

Thank God that lazy fat eddie murphys gone. Hate to think of how much he cost us in wages this year. It’s good news that Lisbie goes as well

Although we have lost a lot of players theres plenty of fresh faces in now and with more to join i think we will have a good enough squad.
