Addicks Assistant Holds no Grudge

On Saturday it was Iain Dowie coming against his former side when we went to Coventry, now on Tuesday it will be Addicks assistant manager Phil Parkinson’s turn when we travel to Hull.

Phil Parkinson had an ill-fated five-month spell as manager of the Tigers last season, as the impressive job he had performed with Colchester tempted the Tigers to bring him in. Unfortunately for him, but ultimately fortunately for the Addicks, with them struggling in the relegation zone he left with his contract terminated by mutual consent.

However, he insists that he holds no grudge against the club that he speaks very highly of as he told the Addicks website: ‘I’m obviously disappointed things didn’t work out for me at Hull because it’s an excellent club.

‘It’s a very well-run club with a lot of good people behind the scenes. They are a very honest side, and every club that goes to Hull knows you will need to give 100% if you want to come away with anything.’

He is now fully focused on his job at the Valley but he still finds it highly frustrating that things didn’t work out better for him at the time at the KC Stadium: ‘It still rankles with me that I wasn’t able to make a success of things there, but that’s football and it’s a business based on results. I’m now focused on doing my part to help Charlton win promotion,’ he added.

Even so Phil Parkinson is more than pleased that the Tigers did avoid relegation and they have been able to continue their progress this season, he also said: ‘I was delighted they managed to stay in the Championship last season, and they have continued to move forward this season.’

With Phil Parkinson’s help Alan Pardew and the Addicks are doing a great job and long may this continue, all the way to the Premier League and more.

What is the thought among the Addicks followers, and Tigers followers for that matter, on this site on Phil Parkinson? How much has he helped Alan Pardew with the job he has performed so far? Share these feelings below so we can discuss them.
