Charlton Athletic have confirmed that 18 year old Academy Graduate Taylor Maloney has signed new terms at the club keeping him at The Valley until the summer of 2020.

Having joined the club at U14 level, Maloney has made good progress through our Academy set up in recent years and he made his senior debut in the game against Crawley Town last August in the EFL Trophy.

He featured again when we took on Fulham’s Under 23 side in November and staged a late comeback and speaking to the Official Site he was obviously delighted to have been offered a new deal.

‘It`s great news. I`ve missed the last few weeks with a knee injury, which has been frustrating, but I cannot wait to get back out there and start playing again. Steve Avory told me just after my injury that I had been doing well and the club were going to be offering me an extension. I was delighted about that as I want to stay here and progress through to the first team.’

Avory himself said of the deal.

‘Taylor has had a very productive season. Over a year ago – as a second-year scholar – I maybe wouldn`t have envisaged the progress that he has made and that is all credit to him. We felt by the end of last season that he had earned his contract and it was always going to be interesting to see how he would develop in an U23 setting. He has probably been our most consistent player, when you look at his performances week in, week out. Those performances have got him his extended stay and we are delighted that we`ll be able to continue to work with Taylor for the next couple of years at least.’

Another one for the future hopefully, but somebody we see develop in the first team rather than impress and get quickly snapped up by others higher in the football food chain.
